Sunday Recap

What Happened This Weekend

This weekend, River City wrapped up Jonah with a clear look at Jonah 4 and the uncomfortable grace of God. Rob showed how Jonah’s anger over Nineveh’s repentance exposed a heart that knew God was compassionate but did not want that compassion extended to people he despised. As the service moved through singing, Scripture, prayer, and preaching, the central thread was God’s mercy: mercy for people who run, mercy for people who repent, and mercy that reaches into the places we most want to hide. Rob pointed us beyond Jonah to Jesus, the better and faithful prophet, whose heart is full of compassion for sinners like us. The big takeaway was simple and searching: if God has met us with undeserved grace, then that grace should begin reshaping the way we see and love other people too.

Jonah 4

From Jonah 4, Rob showed us that God’s compassionate character confronts our anger, prejudice, and resistance to grace, and invites us to receive Christ’s compassion so deeply that we begin to show practical kindness even to outsiders and enemies.
